Pantone has named soft shades of pink and blue – Rose Quartz and Serenity – as the colours of 2016.

Citing a search for mindfulness and well-being, as well as “gender blurring,” the company says this is the first time it has chosen two colours of the year.

“Joined together, Rose Quartz and Serenity demonstrate an inherent balance between a warmer embracing rose tone and the cooler tranquil blue, reflecting connection and wellness as well as a soothing sense of order and peace,” Pantone states in its release, which has become a rite of December since it launched the colour of the year campaign in 2000.

The hues will no doubt show up in fashion, home decor and makeup – duh! pink lipstick, blue eyeshadow – in no time.
