Shopping Toronto: a picture diary. Captivating shoes, department store blur, plus salami

It's a big blur: four days in Toronto shopping from Yorkdale and Yorkville to the Eaton Centre and Ossington St. Saks, The Bay, The Room at The Bay, Nordstrom times two (at Eaton Centre and Yorkdale), Uniqlo, etc. What stood out: mainly the shoes. Darling Miu Miu Maryjanes at Nordstrom, Erdem at The Bay, Dries Van Noten [...]

Beautifying Ste-Catherine St.: Pharmaprix ups its game

Talk about the beautification of Ste-Catherine St. W. Pharmaprix has just opened its seventh "Enhanced Beauty Boutique," or Galerie Beauté as we say chez nous, in the country. It is 4,000 gleaming square feet of prestige and mass brands, plus the the usual drug store stock upstairs. And the concept boasts the only Chanel counters in drug [...]

Chic lit with a conscience

EVA FRIEDE, SPECIAL TO URBAN EXPRESSIONS, PUBLISHED SEPT. 22, 2015 / Isabelle Laflèche adores fashion. The Montreal author and former securities lawyer has had a string of successes with her J’adore series of chic-lit novels, set in New York and Paris, with the most recent a short story based in Montreal’s Holt Renfrew. But there is a lot [...]

And even when a store has a good return policy, you’re walking into a minefield of temptation when you bring back that shiny metallic tunic T-shirt that makes you feel like a fashion victim. Yes, I bought just such an item at [...]

Malled: when fast fashion is like fast food

Here's a post from July 14, 2008. You have a closet full of clothes but nothing to wear. The situation can be likened to the consumption of junk food. What to do? One option I exercise far too often is to exacerbate the situation by heading for the mall – where the equivalent of empty calories [...]
